The Parsonage is set in fully 15 acres of its own land, sheltered by mature woodland and surrounded by open countryside. There are spectacular views to the north over the Firth of Forth to the hills beyond.
The house has a highly accessible situation mid way between Edinburgh and Glasgow. It is near the pivot of the motorway network of central Scotland, being only 4 miles from the junction of the M876 and the M9. Edinburgh and Glasgow (and their airports) are both within daily commuting distance.
Stirling is only 8 miles away and Perth and Dundee are both within 60 miles. The new bridge over the Forth at Kincardine is only 3 miles away and gives greatly improved access to Fife. There are also good rail connections from Falkirk which has commuter services to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Perth.
Airth (1 mile) is the local village which has a local shop, post office and primary school. Airth Castle Hotel on the far side of the village has its own leisure club with a swimming pool, gym, sauna, fitness classes, bar and dining facilities. There is a golf driving range off the main road close to the gates of the hotel.
Stirling, is the major town of central Scotland. In the middle ages Stirling was the seat of the Kings of Scotland and the town is famous for William Wallace who fought the English at Stirling in the 13th century. The modern day town provides a full range of shops, schools and services including a Tesco and also has a golf club, cinema and swimming pool. Bridge of Allan 3 miles beyond is home of Stirling University and also has a leisure centre and the MacRobert Arts Centre with a theatre and cinema and a prep school (Beaconhurst).
Private schools in the area include Dollar Academy (10 miles), which takes both girls and boys as boarders or day pupils, and Beaconhurst at Bridge of Allan. Strathallan, Morrison’s Academy, Glenalmond, Craigclowan (preparatory) and Kilgraston (girls only) are all within 40 miles. All the private schools, universities and colleges of Edinburgh and Glasgow are also within easy reach.
As well as being conveniently placed for the amenities and towns of central Scotland, The Parsonage is also well placed for access to the highlands to the north. The A84 from Stirling is a main route into the Highlands leading to Callander and onto Loch Earn, Crianlarich, Fort William and Oban. The Trossachs and Loch Lomond to the west are also within easy reach. There are therefore opportunities for many outdoor activities including climbing, hill walking, water sports, fishing, shooting and stalking. Gleneagles Hotel with its leisure club and golf courses is only 25 miles away.
The Parsonage is a magnificent period mansion house which dates from 1863 and was originally built as the parsonage for the neighbouring Dunmore Estate.
The house has a traditionally Scottish appearance with impressive faÃ§ades to both the north and south. It is built of stone under steep pitched slate roofs, with large bay windows on the ground floor and pitched dormer windows on the first floor. There is an enclosed courtyard to the rear of the house with a substantial garage / outhouse adjoining.
The main accommodation of the house is reached off a large central hallway with matching stairways at either end. The reception rooms off this hall are well proportioned and of a manageable size. They include a drawing room, a dining room, two sitting rooms and an informal dining room. An inner corridor leads to a flower room and a study and continues to the large kitchen / breakfast room beyond. This room is in the heart of the house and is one of the most impressive modern features with its Aga, central work unit, period style dressers and large breakfast area with French doors to both the garden and the courtyard. Further storage and utility rooms adjoin the kitchen. A corridor from the kitchen leads to an integral staff flat which comprises a sitting room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. Adjoining the kitchen stores is has been converted into a playroom with a galleried first floor above.
The first floor accommodation is served by two stairways from the reception hall and by two landings. The master bedroom suite is off the south landing and comprises a master bedroom with a dressing room and bathroom. There are seven further bedrooms in all and three further bathrooms or shower rooms, two of which are en suite.
Gardens And Grounds
To the west of the house is a paved courtyard enclosed by high wrought iron gates set in stone pillars.
In front of the house, to the north and east, is a large area which is laid down to lawns interspersed with rhododendrons and mature trees. The main garden is to the south of the house where there is a large paved patio with the formal garden beyond. This garden continues around to the west of the house, with flower beds and a central urn.
On the east side of the garden, behind banks of rhododendrons, is a five acre enclosed paddock.
